MDBP Journal Number Two

3 Oct

Well, I’ll be honest. I haven’t done a lot. Why is that? Motivation I guess. laziness, more than likely. It is frustrating to eb a procrastinator. I’d love to blame it on someone else. Anyone want to step up and take the blame?

Honestly, I have done some work. I’m working on the initial post, I want it to be a good one. I would actually like to have about five to ten posts queued up for when I launch. The hard part is not making these dry. I have my own voice, but my writing right now seems bland and boring. If I am boring myself, you guys would probably shoot yourselves from reading it.

So here are my goals for the rest of this week:

  • Finish the initial post and create two more.
  • Select a wordpress Theme. (This can be frustrating)
  • Work on my twitter account, get more involved with the community.
  • Identify ten blogs within my niche; two large, five medium, and three relatively new.
These are not hard goals to accomplish. Of course, I need to quit wasting time on silliness.

Testing

26 Sep

As I have mentioned before, this blog is my personal one, but I also use it to test with. So you will see random stuff appear from time to time. You will see theme changes and such. So don’t freak out if you are a regular reader.

Journal Number One

22 Sep

Well, I am following along an experiment from Think Traffic and their Million Dollar Blog Project. The idea was for them to start a brand new blog, demonstrating their strategies for building a successful and profitable one. They are calling it the Million Dollar Blog Project, because they believe that if other’s follow along and apply the same techniques, all the blogs together can end up making a million dollars. So I figure, why not.

I have several other ventures going on right now. Music City T-Shirt Club is one launching in October. I have another I am starting as a fun project call the Google Plus Expert. I have some other blogs that make me a little money as well. But for this project, I needed something I could be passionate about. Something I could become if I was not already an expert on some level. The topic I chose was Starting a Business Help. The reason being is that I have started or are in the process of starting new businesses. I will use that blog to specifically share what I have learned from both successes and failures. I am fascinated by the topic and I know there  is a huge audience.

The question becomes, can I make money from this? Well, I definitely won’t if I don’t try. So this is the beginning  and I will post weekly updates on here tracking my progress. I’ll set goals and tasks, and hopefully meet. Them. While my plan is to post a journal entry every week, I may post more.

Anyway, thanks for reading and don’t be afraid to comment any criticism or praises. Both are appreciated equally.

Football is Here

1 Sep

So today, I get to watch the University of Kentucky Wildcats take on the Western KentuckyHilltoppers. Don’t ask me what a “Hilltopper” is. I don’t know and don’t care. What I do know is that I am tickled that Football is here. And below are 5 reasons why I am so excited.

  1. No more lacrosse or whatever on ESPN. Seriously, you may love lacrosse but no one else does.
  2. We get to debate any and all aspects of our teams. Any self-respecting college football fan can argue for hours on any point. And those of us who never played, argue the loudest. We all know that he who argues loudest, longest wins.
  3. Women…there are always some beautiful women. Go to any college tailgate and you will see beautiful women. A lot of them. And they all love me whether they realize it or not.
  4. Food. Just roam around tailgates at any major college. You will see buffets, crab boils, BBQ, and pretty much anything you can think of except something you can find on a Vegan’s diet plan.
  5. And finally, just the football itself. I love to watch and see the chess match of two evenly matched teams. Or when my Wildcats blow anyone out because it doesn’t happen often.
So there are my 5 reasons. I could list more, and I may do that as the season goes on.

My Beer Belly Mocks Me

31 Aug

Yeah, I admit it. I have a beer belly. I should have one as I’ve spent years and cash nurturing and cultivating this Buddah like body. Don’t rub my belly, I’ll get sleepy. Anyway, something needs to change. It is mocking me and I just can’t take it any more.

That is why I have begun exercising. I can stare at the beast and cuss all I want, but it just won’t leave without action. So what am I doing you might ask? Nothing fancy honestly. Running in the mornings, and working out at lunch.

For running I just get up early, and run through the neighborhood. The Android app Cardio Trainer is the tool I use to track me and log my runs. It will also upload your info into Google health, which I haven’t messed with yet. I really just use it to track my mileage and see what pace I run, which can be classified as breathtakingly slow.

For working out, I use our gym here at the office. It has basically everything I need to rotate through my four workouts. Chest and Tri’s, back and bi’s, shoulders, and finally legs. I warm up each time for 5 minutes either walking ont he treadmill or going easy on the elliptical. To warm down I do the same.

So there you have it. The KDUB (that is my nickname, don’t mock) path to health. I’ll post more detail and I progress and other thoughts in the future. I know, you can’t wait.

Learning Spanish

30 Aug

I have given myself a goal of learning Spanish recently. I was actually inspired by Fluent in 3 Months. Go check it out as Benny has some good stuff there.

Now, lets be real. I’m not the most disciplined guy. I have a guitar I bought last December and still only know how to play the G chord. And not well at that. And I know there is no way I am going to become fluent in 3 months. The main reason for this is because I cannot move to a Spanish speaking country, learn a few phrases, and go with the either sink or swim approach. Although, I think there are some good things about that approach I can apply.

First, learn a few phrases and just start using them. This is a no brainer. Memorization is not going to get me anywhere. The truth is, I can’t truly memorize something without using it. I’ll have to take a passionate interest, and actively pursue opportunities to use the language.

Second, I live in Nashville, TN. I can’t bury myself in some Hispanic bubble easily. But, I need native speakers to speak with in order to practice and get them to help correct my mistakes. Luckily, I have a good friend who i originally from Honduras. I also have Google Plus, and I am meeting people through Fluent in 3 Months forums in order to use the hangout feature and have video calls. I’ll also look for people to Skype with.

And finally, I need to hold myself accountable. First, i’m doing this by telling my friends I am doing it. This kind of motivates me because I don’t want to say I’m going to do something, and not do it. Pride can be a great motivator. I’m also going to update this blog with my progress. It will help me process my thoughts and have a journal to refer back to.

So, my quest is before me. This should be interesting as I try to turn this southern accented fool into a Spanish speaaking polyglot. Feel free to offer suggestions in the comments. You can even make fun of me a little, but be gentle.

Dexter vs the Motivational Speaker

29 Aug

I love Dexter. I’ll admit, I am late to the party after starting to watch the show at the beginning of this summer. Thankfully, Netflix has Season 5 available now. I think I have about 3 episodes left, so don’t spoil anything.

*Warning* I might spoil a little of the show for you. I know, I’m a bit hypocritical.

The main nemesis for Dexter, is a motivational speaker named Jordan Chase. Jordan’s catch phrase is “Take It!”. He has all the trappings of your cheesy Motivational, Life-Coaching Guru. You know the guys. They are on TV pimping their books and programs for 5 installments of $29.99. At his seminars, there are all kinds of Jordan Chase merchandise for sale. He even gives Dexter a whole bag with a special outfit for his baby.

However, during their dialogue some things start standing out for me. Some things Jordan said were right on. Honestly, this is the case with many of these gurus. But, I tend to just throw the baby out with the bath water. I think I am doing that to my own detriment. Something I have come to realize is that even the dumbest, most annoying waste of breathable are is not wrong about everything little detail. This means, everyone has some potential to add value to my life.

This won’t stop my skepticism. And this definitely won’t stop me from making fun of the goofy cheerleaders of all the gurus. I am not going to start selling blood to go to their seminars. But I’m not going to dismiss them out of hand either. Don’t ask me to drink the kool-aide, and I’ll hear what you have to say.

Howdy!

24 Aug

Welcome to my little hole in the web. This is where I will write what I am doing and what I am thinking. The great thing is that, if you are bored enough to read, you can tell me why I am wrong and how to fix what I am doing and thinking. See, we all win.

There are three major categories that I will be writing about:

  • My Finances – From just trying to stay on a budget, new money making ideas, or just begging people to buy me a winning lotto ticket.
  • My Health – I am trying to get back into shape and would like to some day run a marathon and or a triathlon.
  • Language – I have just started trying to teach myself Spanish, so I will use this as kind of a journal for my progress.
Now, those are the three major categories but you will see me post about many others. From funny stories of my weekend adventures, politics, religion, sports, or any other topic that I just want to talk about. Some of these topics will be controversial and there is a good chance you won’t agree with me on one or more things. Please, speak up either way. I always learn more from a good health debate. Some of my favorite times are hanging out with my good friends, talking about anything and debating everything over a nice glass of Jack. So, let your thoughts fly, I can take it.
That is it for now. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be changing somethings as time goes on as far as the layout and look of things. So I am going to apologize in advance for the mess.
